The Inaugural Ben Dodt Memorial Golf Tournament… was a SUCCESS!

July 5, 2011

As told by Jim Glascott, Ben’s lifelong friend and fellow Mizzou Evan’s Scholar:

On Saturday June 4th, the Inaugural Ben Dodt Memorial Golf Outing was held at Boone Creek Golf Club in Bull Valley, Illinois. During the weekend of Ben’s 27th birthday we had a great field of 32 players, including his friends from McHenry, Missouri and even his high school golf coaches. We enjoyed a beautiful, warm sunny day on the course despite the weeklong forecast of thunderstorms, and strong storms rolling through nearby towns.

When Ben and I were in high school, and during summers back home from Mizzou, we played countless rounds at the newly opened Boone Creek Golf Club, so when we started planning this event and thinking about courses, it was the obvious choice.

Over the years, the course has matured into a serious challenge for the teams that were competing for the Inaugural BCD Memorial title. After 18 holes of scramble golf, two groups were tied at 11 under par. After dinner and the announcement of the various contest winners in the outdoor pavilion, the team of Danny Saviano, Larry, Doug and Terry Grom headed back onto the course to face off with the team of Pete and Rich Kindstrom, Ryan Smith and Ben Roth in a playoff for the championship. The teams teed off on the first hole with daylight quickly fading, in front of a gallery that included the rest of the players from the day along with dozens of Ben’s friends that joined us for dinner.

After two holes, the teams remained tied and daylight had disappeared. It was decided that the winner would be determined by a long distance putting contest on the second green. After two rounds, the team of Pete and Rich Kindstrom, Ryan Smith and Ben Roth drained a 30 foot putt to take home the 2011 BCD Memorial Championship trophy towels.

At the end of the day, we managed to raise over $2000 for the Evans Scholars Foundation and we had a lot of fun enjoying a beautiful day and celebrating Ben. I want to thank everyone who helped me organize the outing, everyone who came out to play and everyone that joined us for dinner for helping make the Inaugural Ben Dodt Memorial Golf Outing a success!

See you next year!
